Its for those innovators whose ideas get no impetus unless they get funds. Well, Indian Government has come up with unique - “One MP-One Idea” program where every MP will get funds to give it to innovators in their constituency. This is the effort to generate innovation from grass root level. As MPs represent and are from every corner of the country, it will boost innovators from far off lands to come up with their ideas and innovate. India is currently ranking very low, that is 62 out of listed 125 countries, in Innovation Index. Such a move will help India move up the ladder.
“To foster, a grass-root bottoms-up approach to innovation and development and to arrive at solutions for local problems which were sustainable and scalable, there was a need to seek out and campaign for ideas having the potential to overcome challenges.” - Said Minister of State for Statistics and Programme Implementation Srikant Kumar Jena
The name of the scheme is Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme or MPLADS
The MP shall award Certificate of honour along with cash award of Rs 2.5 lakhs, Rs 1.5 lakhs and Rs 1 lakh to the first, second and third best innovative solutions respectively through their MPLAD funds at a Public function.
