Whenever i use to visit any cyber cafes or any computer hardware shop, there was one thing in common. The songs being played in their computers had a common preview : “Songs.Pk” as shown above in the picture. Songs.PK, officially a Pakistani website took over spreading free music over internet. These Bollywood songs were hardwork of Indian music directors and singers. With these free songs, no one purchased any album which lead to losses of major music companies. Finally, this was going to happen: India has banned Songs.PK by order of Calcutta High Court. India is fighting with piracy issues since long.
Who Petitioned against Songs.PK?
Indian music industry bodies Phonographic Performance Ltd (PPL), Indian Music Industry (IMI),and music label Sagarika Music Pvt Ltd filed a petition in Calcutta High Court to ban many websites that promotes piracy that included Songs.PK. They appealed for banning website through methods such as DNS name blocking, IP address blocking via routers, and DPI based URL blocking. You can find the copy of high Court’s passed order at the end of this article.
Who Owns Songs.PK ?
Its reported that Songs.PK makes whooping 12 crore a year through advertisements on their website. With reverse IP and domain whois, we have found out the registrant of Songs.pk.
It is owned by: Funmaza Company(fake for sure!) and registered under name Tayyab Javaid , although the address is given as Lahore but the website is hosted in Canada. Although the domain owner is Sushant Mangat as per the domain whois.
There are many websites like mp3fundoo.com , Beemp3.com etc that still promotes piracy.
Encourage No-Piracy by Visiting below websites:
- http://gaana.com - To listen to all type of music(English, Hindi and other regional languages as well) online. Its run by Indiatimes
- http://saavn.com - Similar to Gaana.com but it also have Mobile apps to listen to music on your smartphones
- Flipkart.com will start selling music at very nominal cost of approx Rs.10 per song to download. They have named it “Flyte” and they will soon launch it.
Although songs.pk can be accessed from proxy websites, we encourage no-piracy and urge visitors to listen or download it from above mentioned websites.
