Celebrate “Earth Hour” Tomorrow by Switching Off Electricity

Celebrate Earth Hour for the year 2012. This global Earth Hour will be celebrated tomorrow that means on 31st March, 2012 from 8.30 PM to 9.30 PM

What is Earth Hour?

As per Wikipedia, Earth Hour is a worldwide event that is organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and is held on the last Saturday of March annually, encouraging households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights for one hour to raise awareness about the need to take action on climate change.

What Should I Do?

You can celebrate and join this global movement by switching off all the lights and power of your electric/electronic appliances including your mobiles and computer for one hour that is 8.30 PM to 9.30 PM on 31st March, 2012

By doing so, much of megawatts of electricity will be saved. As per WWF reports, last year it was decrease of 1000+ tonnes of carbon dioxide emission due to one hour power shutdown. You can also do the following:

  • Make sure all non-essential internal and external lighting is dimmed or turned off for the full hour.
  • While you’re at it, it wouldn’t hurt to turn off all non-essential electrical appliances and machinery. (It might even help lower your company’s / residence monthly electric bill).
  • Make sure your friends and family members are aware of Earth Hour, so they can participate in the event at home.
