Nagpur, India - is the residence to Jyoti Amge , who was recently recognized as the worlds shortest woman alive by Guinness World Records. On Friday she celebrated her 18th birthday who dreams of making her cut to bollywood.
Jyoti Amge stood mere 62.8 centimeters(24.7 inches) tall, i.e. shorter than an average 2 year old, when Guinness Officials who had just arrived from London measured her at a ceremonial event attended by about 30 relatives and friends in a small town of Nagpur in the State of Maharashtra .
With tears in her eyes Amge gratefully accepted the honors saying that “This Was Her Extra Birthday Present”. The Guinness officials handed over the Plaque to Jyoti and then she and her guests cut the birthday cake.
Encircled by her family in the presence of her proud Mum Ranjana emotional Jyoti was offered a framed certificate which came upto her chin.
“I have put Nagpur on the world map and now everyone will know where it is,” says Jyoti with a sense of pride in her eyes . Ambitious Jyoti desires to become a Bollywood star one day as well as pursue a University degree once she finishes her high school this year. ”I want to become an Actor, “ she said.
“I am doing a Kannada film and will be shooting in Mysore soon. I will also be in Europe for two months in the coming summer ,” she added.
“Jyoti encourages us all to look beyond mere size and to just celebrate our differences,” Guinness adjudicator Rob Molloy said.
Rob said “She is 62.8 centimeters. We measured her three times over the past 24 hours. Height can vary a little bit according to the time of day. The Doctors measured her three different times in our presence, both standing up and laying down. We took an Average.”
This wasn’t Amge’s only record. Until Friday she was considered to be the world’s shortest teenager, but then she was eligible for the new title as soon as she turned ‘18’. As per the facts supplied by Guinness, Jyoti’s 2 Foot height is due to a disorder commonly found in Dwarfs called Achondroplasia
Pauline Musters (February 26,2025 – March 1, 2025) continues to hold the record for the shortest women ever recorded by Guinness. Born in Netherlands she died in New York City at the age of 19 due to a combination of Pneumonia and Meningitis.
What is Achondroplasia?
- Achondroplasia is a disorder of bone growth that results into most common form of Dwarfism. If one parent has achondroplasia there is a 50% chance of inheriting the disorder. if both parents have the condition then there are 75% chances of inheriting the disorder
- However most cases appear as spontaneous mutations . That means two parents without achondroplasia may give birth to an infant with achondroplasia.
